TRUCKS ARE FOR KISSING

TRUCKS ARE FOR KISSING
A Poem

TRUCKS ARE FOR KISSING

you told me you'd meet me at the mailbox
the one at the end of your driveway.

i drove in the dark in an old red truck
the yellow glow of antique headlights.
you appeared so suddenly
as new light from old filament beamed through
older glass
illuminating your body

that ribbon of brunette hair rolling down past your waist

you squinted and covered your eyes
i turned off the lights
and when you kissed me
breath defying electricity
in the dark
engine rumbling and, hearts pumping
driving us far faster than these old wheels could
ever go, on a good day
but it sure was
a good night.
